Computers are an essential tool for our work. Windows' latest version: Windows 10 provides us with more operational possibilities. If you are familiar with the shortcut keys, you will be more efficient at work.
There is a great number of shortcut keys in Win10 system, but we don't need to search and remember all the shortcut keys, so this article lists the most commonly used shortcut keys and some useful functions.
Windows Shortcut Keys
An efficient work way does not mean using a lot of ‘advanced’ software, and it actually is familiar with many basic functions and operations to meet the ‘real needs’. That is to say, and skill is more important than numbers of software.
+ 1 to 9: Activates window number 1 to 9 of the taskbar (+ [Shift] = new instance) For several commonly used programs, press this shortcut keys to directly open the Apps, that will save you much more time than with mouse clicks.
+ D: Hide/display the desktop Windows 8 and Windows 10 both provide quick access to the desktop, and the mouse clicks on the small bar at the bottom right corner to enter the desktop. However, it is still not as convenient and fast as the shortcut keys. Just press " + D" to hide or display the desktop.
+ I: Open Windows Settings You can quickly open the windows settings to customize the windows system properties.
+ L: Lock Desktop If you want to leave your computer for a while and don't want other people to use your computer, and don’t want to restart your system when you come back. " + L" is a good choice.
+ Q: Open the Windows Search charm in App mod It allows searching for app shortcuts, executable files, file documents, settings, web search results. That is to say, and you can open the Apps/files/web search results by inputting the names. Apps are not limited to your installed programs, and you can also search for the system default apps by this search method, such as Calculator and Paint.
+ R: Opens the Run menu It is used to run some files which can be quickly started and set some commands, for example, put the shortcut (.Ink) in the Windows directory and press the " + R" shortcut, and then enter the shortcut name to open the software.
+ W: Open the Windows ink workspace Open the Windows ink workspace, and the third option Screen Sketch allows to capture the screenshots. Compared to the first method, you can edit the screenshot, but it’s less efficient.
+ ↓\↑: Maximize / minimize window It's a good shortcut key. You can press it when you can't use the mouse.
+ ← \ →: Split Screen / Minimize window / dock window to left / right When we are writing papers or reports, we often need to refer to the resources that are usually from multiple App windows. It’s very inconvenient to read in one window and then click to change another window. I think 'splitting screen display' will help to solve this problem. If you are familiar with “ + ← \ → “ shortcut keys, it will be very convenient when you edit and proofread multiple documents. You can also continue to press “ + ↑/ ↓” to split screen.
+ Tab: Open Task view When you have multiple opened windows on your desktop, you can use " + Tab" to switch between these Windows.
+ Shift + S: Screenshot It allows to take the screenshot of full-screen and area-screen, then pastes to the files. The only Cons is that we can’t directly edit the screenshots.
Ctrl + N: Create a new document / window Press "Ctrl + N" to fast create a new document of the window, that is very convenient when you are viewing files on multiple windows.
Ctrl + X: Cut the selected and copy it to the Clipboard Besides the commonly used Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V, Ctrl + X that can cut the content to the clipboard, and you can also use Ctrl + V together with those shortcuts when you do editing work.
Ctrl + Z/Y: Undo "Ctrl + Z" is frequently used in our editing work. You can undo your last action and erases the last change done to the document reverting it to an older state.
Ctrl + Shift + N: Fast Create a New File Folder In Normal: Right click mouse – Create New Folder. Shortcuts Keys: Create a folder in one second, save much time.
Ctrl + Shift + T: Reopen the last closed tab.
Ctrl+ Shift + Esc: Open Task Manager directly When the software stops responding, we usually open the task manager to shut down the running software. Previously, it was inefficient to open the task manager interface with "Ctrl + Alt+ Delete". But “Ctrl + Shift + Delete” can solve this problem perfectly. You can quickly change your password and cancel your account with "Ctrl + Alt+ Delete".
Ctrl + Mouse Drag: Fast create a copy
Shift + Delete: Permanently delete data files The command Delete is only deleting data files to the Recycle Bin, and it also takes up system memory, so when you are sure that a file will not be needed, you can use this shortcut key to delete it permanently.
Shift + Letter: Capitalize the letter When the caps are not locked, press shift and the letter together to capitalize the letters, this shortcut key is suitable for inputting a few uppercase letters.
Alt+F4: Exit the active program We usually need to click Start menu and Power button, then select Shutdown, these three steps by mouse, that is slower than we press the Alt + F4. 1. Computer Shutdown: Press "Alt+F4", then press Enter. 2. Close Window: It's also used to quickly close the window, the function is basically the same as "Ctrl + W".
Alt + Tab: Switch between open apps. Usually, when we need to switch the program windows/interface, we need to click the icon bar below and click to select. However, if we use the Alt + Tab shortcut keys, it’s more convenient.
Alt + Double Click or Enter: View the file size. We usually right click the mouse to view the file size. The shortcut keys: just press the Alt and double click the file to fast open the file properties window. Here the Enter key can be used instead of the double click on the mouse.
Alt + ↑: In Windows Explorer & Desktop Interface, Go up one level (folder hierarchy) Alt + ←/→: In Windows Explorer & Desktop Interface, Go Back / Go Forward This is a group of shortcut keys. It is used when you are viewing a local file, you need to click to open the upper-level interface. If you click the wrong one, you need to go back to open the previous interface, that is inconvenient. You can use this group of shortcut keys. It is very convenient to solve this problem.
F2: Rename the selected item Click the File and press F2 to fast rename the file.
F11: Full-Screen mode It’s very convenient to fast change to the full-screen mode.
